Hydrogen Atomic Spectrum

 

 

1 – When hydrogen molecules receives high energy spark the H2 molecules absorb energy and some of H-H bonds are broken. The resulting H atoms are excited (contain excess energy)

2 – The excited atom release energy by emitted light of various wavelengths and produce emission spectrum of hydrogen.

3 – Continuous spectrum: result when white light is passed through prism.

4 – When the hydrogen emission spectrum in the visible region passed through prism we see few lines each line corresponds to certain wavelength. This spectrum called line spectrum.
